Cartomancy - Divination with Playing Cards

Did you know you can use regular playing cards as a form of divination? This is great for people who like to or need to keep their practice quiet.

Cartomancy is the practice of fortune-telling with a pack of playing cards. It’s believed that this practice appeared not long after the introduction of playing cards in Europe during the 1360’s.

Tarot cards are known for more in-depth meanings whereas playing cards offer a more direct answer to your query. Just like in Tarot, each suit represents a different theme,

  • Spades - Challenges or events in the future

  • Hearts - Relationships, family and home

  • Clubs - Positive things

  • Diamonds - finances

Some people ignore the joker in the deck of cards, it’s up to you if you want to include the card. If you do include the card You can read it in the same way as the fool in a tarot deck.

Reading the cards

You can read playing cards in the same way as tarot, you can do a single-card pull, a three-card spread or even spreads such as the Celtic cross. Treat the cards in the same way as you would a tarot deck, make sure that it’s cleansed of all previous energy.
