How to make a Poppet

A poppet can take on any form that you wish and it can be made from any material, you can use materials that you have to hand or you can choose the materials to suit the intent. Some ideas for materials can include

• Fabric - hand sew a doll and add things into the stuffing such as, crystals, herbs, or even something belonging to that person if you can.

• Clay - use air dry clay and make it into any shape, you can again add herbs, crystals, and oils into the clay for the intent.

• Paper - a simple doll cut out of paper can work just as well

• Dough - if you are a kitchen witch or even just love baking why not make a doll out of dough and bake it?

• Sticks - use sticks found on a walk or in the garden to create a stick doll

• Wool - you knit or crochet a doll, just like the first point you can add elements to the stuffing.

Make it Talisman or a taglock

You can add things to your poppet to help with the intent. My personal favourites to add are crystals and sigils but you can add anything relevant. My most recent poppet includes dried rose petals, rose quartz, a sigil and some of my hair so that the doll is tied to me.

How to Make a Poppet

There are many ways to make a poppet, this is the way that I make them so feel free to take what resonates with you are change things to suit your needs.

The following instructions are for the poppet that I made above, this particular poppet I made for self love.

Materials

• Fabric and thread

• stuffing

• crystals and rose quartz

• sigil

Gather all of your materials and cleanse them.

Sit with the materials and focus on your intention and the person who the poppet is for. My intention for this poppet was to help me to love and accept myself for who I am and to take better care of myself.

Cut out the silhouette from the fabric and sew each of the pieces. Focus on the intention as you do this. Make sure to leave an opening to turn the right side out and to add in the contents.

Place some of the stuffing inside, then add in the crystals, petals and sigil. Place more stuffing inside and sew the opening shut. You can incorporate knot magic into this if you wish and you tie the thread.

Sit with the poppet in your hands and focus once more on your intention so that the poppet becomes charged with that energy.
